Security upgrades safeguard customer data

Increased data security needs by its clients, particularly in the financial, employee benefits and healthcare industries, have prompted HKM to upgrade its security system.

National legislation, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), has forced companies in those industries, as well as service providers to those industries (like HKM), to be much more accountable for customer data security.

Protection One installed HKM’s system. It includes intrusion detection, access control, employee badging, closed circuit television (CCTV) and remote video. HKM’s four exterior entrances and dock, six data processing and programming department doors and the server room door will be monitored by dome cameras; the parking lot and building exterior by eight cameras.

Each employee will be issued an access card with his/her personal code, and must use the card in order to gain access to designated plant and office areas. The “smart card” readers at these access points also include keypads for dual authentication processing. Dome cameras are located at all card reader locations.

Protection One provides full-time monitoring, a secure hosted environment and automatically archived data protection. HKM security officers can review activity logs and access points and perform system maintenance easily and quickly via the Internet from the office or home.

The CCTV system incorporates a digital video recorder to record and off-load video clips and provides local as well as remote monitoring.

A national company with branches in more than 60 cities across the U.S., Protection One provides security to more than one million homes and businesses in North America.
