Plush polar bears are providing comfort to children at MetroHealth Medical Center as the result of a donation by HKM Direct Market Communications.
The bears are presented by Child Life staff members and nurses to children in all areas of the hospital – Emergency, Inpatient Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Burn Intensive Care Unit, Dermatology, and Outpatient Pediatric Clinic.
“The polar bears provide comfort to children in an unfamiliar place. They help promote normalcy for children in the hospital and let the families know that MetroHealth and the donors care,” states Erin Whipple, manager, Child Life & Education. “Staff members love to provide items to children during the hospital experience that bring a smile to the child’s face and help the family feel more relaxed.”
Each year, MetroHealth sees over 52,000 children in its outpatient pediatric clinic and provides 6,000 patient days of in-hospital care to children.
One of the largest, most comprehensive health care providers in Northeast Ohio, The MetroHealth System has been serving the medical needs of the Greater Cleveland community since 1837. MetroHealth has 17 locations throughout Cuyahoga County.
